Punch Robson Solicitors Announce the Retirement of Stewart Williamson in June 2015

Posted on

Stewart Williamson, a Partner at Punch Robson, will be retiring from the firm at the end of June after a long career as a solicitor on Teesside.

Stewart entered the legal profession as an Articled Clerk with the Stockton firm of Martin L Cohen & Co before joining Merritt & Co in Yarm, and then practising in Middlesbrough for 25 years before then joining Punch Robson on 1st January 2002. As Partner and Head of both the Residential and Commercial Property Departments, Stewart saw considerable change during the financial crisis of 2007/8 and the ensuing recession with its huge impact on property law.

Under Stewart’s leadership both the Residential and Commercial Property Departments of the firm were able to adapt to the new environment and build the strong position we see today. As Stewart says  “ I am proud of the teams I leave behind. They are capable, well able to look after the interests of the client and provide essential continuity within the firm.”

Stewart recently handed on the Head of Department positions to two younger partners, so as to be more closely focused on looking after his key clients. Elaine McLaine now heads up the Corporate and Commercial Property department, whilst Katherine Eaton is Head of Residential Conveyancing.

Geoff Cruickshank, Managing Partner of the firm, recalls that  “ Stewart has been an influential Partner at Punch Robson during what has been a key period in the recent history and development of the firm. I join with everyone here in thanking Stewart for all his efforts, and in wishing him every happiness for the future.”

Upon his retirement from Punch Robson, Stewart will be celebrating nearly 50 years in the legal profession on Teesside.
