Please join us in congratulating our Partner and Head of Corporate & Commercial Elaine McLaine-Wood on her election to the key position of Senior Vice President of the Tees Valley Law Society (TVLS) at their AGM on 29th June 2015.
Also at the AGM Elaine proposed (and gained agreement to) a significant change to the TVLS, allowing non-solicitors to become members. This change will allow students, paralegals, legal executives and barristers, all of whom work with the law on Teesside, but who are not qualified solicitors, to become part of the Law Society as associate members. This extension in membership will allow the TVLS to draw input from a broader group across the region, as well as providing its initiatives with a wider impact.
The Tees Valley Law Society provides important local input to the agenda of the national Law Society, representing the opinions and needs of Solicitors (and now Law Professionals) in the region. A key current issue is the threat to legal aid, and TVLS will be working closely with members to ensure that we are well represented locally and nationally.
As for Elaine’s plan for her own personal role within the TVLS she is looking forward to hosting events on behalf of the Society to promote awareness of key topics, and to drive debate and discussion amongst members. She is also proposing to work alongside the TVLS council to re-ignite the previous programme of prizes to reward outstanding trainees and newly qualified solicitors – hopefully providing encouragement to some of our great local talent.
Congratulations Elaine!
