Domestic Violence is not acceptable. You should never have to tolerate abuse and there are remedies available to you.
You could bring an application to Court for a Non-Molestation Order or an Occupation Order or both.
The first provides protection for you from you abuser and could prevent him / her from pestering, harassing or intimidating you. He / she would also be prohibited from using violence against you or threatening to do so.
An Occupation Order could exclude your abuser from the family home. If the need for protection is sufficiently serious you can make the application on an emergency basis. This means the matter will be decided by a Judge on a temporary basis and in the abuser’s absence. You would then attend Court at a later date for further consideration of the matter. A Power of Arrest can be added to the Order. This would provide you with further protection because, if your abuser was to breach the Court Order, the Police would be obliged to arrest him / her and he / she would be brought before the Court as soon as possible to explain why they should not be committed to prison, receive a fine or both.
You should never suffer in silence and there are many Solicitors, including ourselves, who specialise in these matters and will be more than happy to give you the assistance you require.
